Learn piano, cello, and composition in Berlin-Mitte
I’m Eden Lonsdale, a British-German composer, offering lessons in piano, cello, and composition for all ages and levels, from beginners to advanced students. My teaching provides a solid technical and creative foundation that encourages curiosity, precision, and independence in musical development.

Education
I studied composition at the Guildhall School of Music in London with Malcolm Singer, Cassandra Miller, and Julian Anderson, as well as at the Kunstuniversität Graz with Klaus Lang. My studies focused on exploring the interaction between movement and stasis, and how to draw the listener into music’s manifold layers through the interplay of harmony, timbre, and melody.
Experience
I've been teaching privately for over five years and tutor children in piano and cello at Waldorf schools. My compositions have been performed internationally by the London Symphony Orchestra, Ensemble Intercontemporain, and the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, among others. I've released several albums, including Dawnings and Clear and Stormy Horizons.
Method
My teaching adapts to each student’s individual learning style and pace, fostering musical understanding, listening, and expression. Through technique, analysis, and creative work, students develop confidence and independence. The goal is to cultivate one’s own artistic voice in playing, composing, or improvising. Lessons are available in English or German.

Each lesson is based on your interests and projects. We analyse existing works, develop your own compositional ideas, and work on structure, harmony, and sound design. The lessons combine practical exercises with reflection on musical language and aesthetics.

No. Whether you want to develop your first ideas or already have some experience, the lessons are adapted to your level. We start with the fundamentals of notation, listening, and musical form, and build on them individually.
About Eden
What inspired you to start teaching, and what do you enjoy most about it?
Teaching has been an important part of musical life since the time of Bach. For me, it means not only helping students learn to play, but also guiding them towards a deeper understanding of music. What I find most fulfilling is inspiring curiosity and seeing students discover their own sound, gain confidence, and develop joy in their music.
What makes your lessons unique?
My approach is based on clarity, patience, and the aim of encouraging independent learning. Each lesson is a dialogue that creates space for understanding, trust, and individual development. If you've experienced frustration in the past, my method helps you regain confidence and experience music as something natural and inspiring.

Do I need any prior experience or my own instrument?
